Karpays are ancestral initiation rituals that have been passed down since the time of the Incas. They are empowerment practices in which, through an energy transfusion by a master or expert practitioner, a person’s connection with a certain form of living energy from nature is strengthened, allowing them to harness it as part of themselves for their own benefit and that of others, feeding the Kausay, or life force.
The Andean peoples inhabit a world of living energy and seek to communicate with the divine or supernatural beings that give it form and life, called Ruwal, Apus, and Ñustas. These are forms of energy that manifest as mountains, rivers, springs, the earth, and other elements of nature. They are guardians of the territory and of life, and since the beginning of the world they have shared their powers and knowledge with human beings.
Receiving a Karpay allows us to relate more effectively to these sacred forces by exchanging energy with them. This is the ancient art of the Paqo or Andean priest. That is why Karpay is the main initiation ritual on the Andean spiritual path.
